AnonymousParticipantHaving managed the IT function before, I know two of IT's biggest concerns is that a web part does not compromise the performance and/or security of the SharePoint installation that they are responsible to keep up and running. While a web part that is written poorly can have a negative impact on SharePoint, the Quest qDiscussionview Web Parts and the full package of Quest Web Parts are built and tested to play nicely in any SharePoint installation. Moreover, since qDiscussionView is a free web part, 1,000's of users have downloaded the web part and are enjoying it.

Quest Web Parts adhere to published Microsoft guides on creating web parts and are tested for memory leaks and security risks (e.g.,cross site scripting) using Microsoft code testing tools. In fact, Microsoft has pre-approved a short list of 3rd party web parts to be used in their SharePoint Online Dedicated (BPOS-D) environment. See the Microsoft Custom Solution Document, Appendix H page 70, here. You don't get the nod from Microsoft unless your web parts are good citizens.

Granted, your IT group will have to install qDiscussionView which they will grumble about; however, the benefits of the web part more than offset the installation time and the stability of the web part will allow your I.T. to rest easy.

AnonymousParticipantCan anyone using WSS 3.O share their experience with this Web part modification? I’m trying to talk my IT people into loading it to our WSS server, but, getting a little push back because they are unfamiliar with it. Thanks!

AnonymousParticipantQWP qDiscussionView has had thousands of downloads and is a very stable, well behaved web part. Moreover, QWP went through a rigorous testing period to be pre-approved for BPOS-Dedicated use. See the attached document for approved 3rd party software:

Share the document with your I.T. group and let them know that installing the qDiscussionView is easy and should not present future problems for them.
