After fixing the <remove name “Session” /> element using Configuration Editor, the SharePoint site is not viewable with HTTP 500 error.

Cause

This is a product defect in the current version of Quest Web Part for SharePoint.

Resolution

WORKAROUND:
  • Open the web.config that causes the web crash
  • Delete or comment out the following line
    <add name="Session" type="System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule" />
  • Save changes to the web.config file.
  • Apply all fixes using the Configuration Editor tool
  • In some cases an iisreset maybe required
 
STATUS:
Waiting for fix in the future release of Quest Web part for SharePoint.
