The search function freezes when trying to search on a SharePoint content database in a Quest List view webpart.

Cause
This is a known issue and there is a roadmap to the fix.
Resolution
There is a better way to achieve what you wanted. Refer to the Help section (accessible from the help icon - in the second screen shot attached to this solution at the upper right corner of the Configurator editor).
Use <%FilePath%> instead of using ViewedLists property TargetUrl attribute. The steps for the workaround:
1. Open Configurator for the List View
2. Click Edit button next to ViewedList property, click Edit button next to the List/Document
3. Delete or blank out the TargetUrl field
4. Return to Display tab of the Configurator and click Edit button next to the DisplayFields property
5. Click Edit button next to Name field
6. Uncheck "LinkToTarget"
7. Enter "<%FilePath%>" in the LinkTo field
8. Save and return the List View
9. Run search and click on document to open
